A Great Deal!

I know, I know… More shopping? But seriously, this one I just couldn’t resist.

Yesterday as I was stalking… Err… Casually reading one of my favorite Buy, Sell, Trade pages on Facebook, I came across a great deal! Someone had posted that Michael’s had a wooden art easel on clearance (hello 80% off!!) for only $13.99!

Crazy, right?? Originally, this sucker was $80 and if you’ve ever priced wooden art easels out, you know, they’re expensive.

So anyway… Enough of my spending justification.

Today, I dragged my very tired butt out into the literally freezing weather and got the best deal ever!

I picked up the easel (it has a chalkboard, whiteboard and a holder for a paper roll, in addition to two storage baskets), a paper roll (duh), Crayola Washable Non-Toxic Paint (inspired by my friend Jenny), and paint brushes… All for $30!

Awesome deal, huh? I love after Xmas sales!

The Toddler Food Battle

While Charlotte was sick over the past two plus weeks, we became VERY lenient at mealtimes. And by that, I mean that Charlotte pretty much survived on Cherrios, oranges and cheese sticks.

One thing we’ve said from the beginning was that we were going to be strict when it came to food. No making seperate meals, no giving unhealthy options because it’s easier, etc. Well, let’s just say, that’s not the standard we were operating under these past couple of weeks.

SO, since Sunday, we’ve really been trying to get back to a good place with Charlotte. We started making her veggie shakes again, we started trying to feed her more than just her favorites, etc.

Well, last night we had turkey meatballs and spaghetti squash for dinner. First of all, it was delicious. Here’s the recipe if you’re interested. Second, INSTANTLY C was not having it. She just kept saying (and crying) no and signing that she wanted to eat.

Despite the difficulty that is watching your child cry and say she’s hungry, we stayed strong. We told her that if she wants to eat, this is what’s for dinner. This game literally went on for nearly 30-45 minutes (or so it felt) until finally Mark said, “Ok, I’m going to count to three and if you don’t want it, that’s fine. But I’m going to take you out of your chair.”

1… 2… 3…

Of course, she didn’t budge.

Mark grabbed her out of her chair and once in his arms, she pointed to the bowl of spaghetti squash and meatballs. Mark looked at me like, “should I let her have this??” I nodded.

And just like that, Charlotte ate the ENTIRE bowl and asked for more.

Unfortunately, we had already eaten the rest of it… so we started giving her other stuff. In total, Charlotte ate:

  • One turkey meatball and 1/3 cup of spaghetti squash with sauce
  • One piece of toast with cinnamon
  • 1 large bowl of cottage cheese (apx 3/4 cup)
  • Apx 1/2 cup of yogurt
  • 5-10 strawberries
  • 1-2 apple slices
  • 1.75 cheese sticks
  • Veggie shake (beets, etc)

Despite the fact that during the whole (VERY LONG) experience, one jar of salsa was spilled on the ground, my favorite little dip bowl was broken (and more red sauce was flung around the kitchen), and Charlotte technically only started eating after we said dinner was done, I’m going to call that one a win for the parents!

First Day Back to School

Today was Charlotte’s first day back at school post-Winter Break. Her school was closed for two full weeks.

I was a little nervous about her going back… not that she wouldn’t love it once she was there, but that she would cry when I dropped her off, etc.

Well, our little love proved me wrong.

She was SO excited to go back this morning. During the break, we had been reading the book her teachers made for her that has a picture of each student on a page with a little comment, ie: “Charlotte loves playing…”

When we got into her classroom this morning, I put Charlotte down and her teacher said, “Let’s go check out the activity table!” (Each morning they have a different activity set up for the kids… painting, a game, etc.). Charlotte literally just turned to the table and started walking towards it. I had to say, “Excuse me little Miss… what about a kiss for momma?”

She turned back, gave me my smooch and walked away.

Well then! haha But really, it makes me so happy! How special for her to have so many loving people and places in her life…

She has mommy and daddy, she has Nana who watches her 2 mornings and one full day a week, she has Grandma & Grandpa who she saw daily for the first 13+ months of her life and now sees in the afternoons, she has Grampie & Grammy Amy who she plays with weekly and now, she has school with friends and teachers who absolultely adore her and teach her such wonderful things.

She’s a very lucky little munchie.

Here’s an adorable card they made for C’s school bestie (aka Cujo – Mark’s nickname for her, as she’s bitten Charlotte twice), Chloe, who has been out sick this week.

Winter Break 2015/16

For the first time in… I don’t know, ever, I had a REAL Winter Break this year. Even in college, I always worked over breaks. Hell, in high school I worked over breaks.

This year, I took off from Thursday, December 24th (I only worked a half day on the 23rd) through the new year… meaning today is my first day back.

Ahhhhhhhh… SO NICE!

To make it even better, the hubs was off, too!

We spent the first half of our trip really relaxing. I’m talking daily naps, afternoon movies, day dates, etc. Unfortunately, Charlotte got sick on the 24th and was sick with pink eye… then a few days later got sick with a fever, which she had for three + days.

Bowling with a toddler was hilarious!

Happy NYE face.

The second half of our vacation was spent painting Charlotte’s new big girl room! I’ll do an entire post dedicated to the new room and painting process, but the gist is that we’re going to leave the nursery as-is (ish) – only changing decor, but leaving all major furniture/paint – and move Charlotte to the other bedroom.

So, to begin the room makeover, we painted. Trim and all!

We picked Sherwin Williams Intimate White, which is pretty dang pink/coral. BUT, I really love how it turned out and think it’s all going to come together quite nicely.

We moved the furniture into the hallway!

We’re Having A…

Charlotte is very excited to announce that come May of THIS YEAR (Happy New Year, All!), she’ll welcome a little brother into our family!

C’s “I Love My Brother” onesie: $4 from Kohl’s

We had our anatomy scan ultrasound this past Tuesday (12/29) and it went perfectly! Baby is healthy and adorable.

He was a little wiggle worm and smooshed his hands in his face and laid with his legs over his head like a goon. It was so fun to see him play around in there and just such a relief to hear that he’s seemingly healthy!

The doc said that a positive anatomy scan reduces chances of any genetic disorders by 50%!

And gender… Let’s just say the hubs is pretty darn pleased! Me too! I envision a cuddly little buddy and I just can’t wait to snuggle this sweet little guy.

My heart is bursting.

Check out this little stud…

Orange

I was about the put C down for her nap when she looked at me and while signing “eat,” said “orange”… Which actually sounds like “ornjshhh” or something like that.

I was so excited, I jumped up and took her to the kitchen – mid naptime routine – and showed her an orange. I said, “is this what you want?” And with an excited smile, she said “yes.”

How cool is that? She can say some words, but that feels like the first time that she used a word to tell me that she wanted something that wasn’t in front of her.

And being that the poor little buns woke up with a fever that hasn’t ceased and thus has barely eaten today, I was happy to oblige.

16 Weeks, 2 Days

12/6/15

How far along: 16 Weeks & 2 Days

Total weight gain: Okay, I swear I’m only partially doing this on purpose… but I don’t know! I haven’t stepped on the scale lately.

Maternity clothes: All day, every day.

Stretch marks: Praying this vitamin E oil works…

Sleep: I’ve been doing a lot better with sleep… although I was up for 1.5 hours in the middle of the night last night. And oy. Charlotte had been having these screaming crying fits in the middle of the night. Thankfully, she didn’t last night… but eesh. They were so sad.

Best moment of this week: We had a great weekend! Charlotte started gymnastics, which was adorable! And I saw my girlfriends, which is always nice. And last night was the first night of Chanukah, which was just so silly. Charlotte is finally into gifts.

Miss anything: I could have gone for a glass of wine or a martini this week. I’ve been having terrible, terrible headaches and could have used something to take the edge off.

Movement: On Thursday night, I’m like 99% sure I was feeling the baby. I had consumed an excessive amount of 7up and I think little baby boop was fizzing around in there. YAY! Finally, my favorite part of pregnancy.

Food cravings: Mac & Cheese… that’s been my big weakness lately.

Anything making you queasy or sick: My headaches have been making me pretty uneasy. Oy and I had a stomach flu on Sunday night/Monday morning. It was terrible. I ended up calling the doctor because I was unable to keep down anything, including liquids. In my weakened state, I got pretty nervous for the little babes. Thankfully, it was gone fairly quickly.

Have you started to show yet: Big bump.

Gender: I can’t wait to find out! I’m so indifferent, but I hate not knowing. Messes with my uber controlling mind.

Labor signs: No, no.

Belly button in or out: It’s starting to look like a gaping hole again.

Wedding rings on or off: On… but sometimes they’re tight.

Happy or moody most of the time: I was sick and recovering this week, so I’m not sure. Mostly worn out. But again, we had a great weekend and I was definitely all sorts of happy.

Looking forward to: My doctor’s appointment and a fun family weekend!

11 Weeks Pregnant

10/29/15

  How far along: 11 Weeks

Total weight gain: No additional weight this week, still 1 lb total.

Maternity clothes: I bought a pair of H&M Mama jeans last week and a few new shirts… I’m pretty happy with the new purchases!

Stretch marks: Not if I can help it!

Sleep: More insomnia this week, but I did finish two entertaining chick lit books: Life & Other Near Death Experiences and Eight Hundred Grapes – As a side, I can’t tell you the last time I read a book in two days… pretty much never. But you’d be surprised what 4 hours in the middle of the night will do for ya!

Best moment of this week: Charlie’s swim class was a blast this week! It was so sweet seeing her splash around. Also, I finally told my cousin, Aunt, Uncle and friends that I’m pregnant! I don’t know why I waited so long!

Miss anything: I’ve had the worst headache for the past two days. So maybe a healthy head? Also, my severe heartburn restricts any and all coffee intake (even decaf)… I miss my morning coffee.

Movement: None!

Food cravings: I could go for an ice cream sundae.

Anything making you queasy or sick: My headache.

Have you started to show yet: Giant bump.

Gender: Ugh who knows! haha Maybe a girl? Or is it a boy???

Labor signs: No, no.

Belly button in or out: Very deeply in.

Wedding rings on or off: On!

Happy or moody most of the time: I think I’ve been generally happy this week… except for today. Ugh. My parents (mainly my father) was an ass today. Imagine screaming argument level. So fun.

Looking forward to: My cousin is coming tomorrow!! We have such a fun weekend planned and I just love her to pieces. I’m really happy to see her. Plus C has her 15 month check up tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing her growth progress.

The 3am News

9/12/15

On Wednesday, September 9th at 3 am, we got news that will forever change our lives, hearts, and future. Our little Charlie is gaining a sibling 🙂

Now, it might seem weird that the news came at 3am… and that’s because it is weird. I had been feeling sick for a week, so I decided to buy some pregnancy tests. I planned to wait until Thursday, which was the day I was expecting my period… BUT, for those of you who remember the last time (when I took 10 pregnancy tests before testing positive), I have an issue with patience.

Anyway, I woke up at 3 am to pee (I will discuss this and other pre-pregnancy symptoms in another post), and decided… why not test now? I mean… it’s the good morning pee. I didn’t want to waste it.

So, I quietly unwrapped the test, did my thing and waited. I walked back and forth from one side of the bathroom to the other. Finally, I let my eyes reach the test: Pregnant. I can’t explain the feeling in one word. At first it was like, “duh”… I knew I was. And then came the “holy crap!” factor… not scared, but kind of “here we go again!” And of course excitement! So much excitement that I was awake for the next 2.5 hours googling, downloading baby apps, and trying to distract myself.

I duplicated my message to hubs from last time, but instead of putting the announcement sign near the toilet (which didn’t work as planned last time), I put it near the toothbrushes. After reaching over the sign and pregnancy test three times, he finally saw the message and ran out of the bathroom with a full face of toothpaste and half screamed, “REALLY?!” with a big sudsy smile!

The sign when I told Hubs we were pregnant with Charlie:

amazing dad

The sign to announce our newest miracle:

We’re really happy and really lucky. We literally just started trying this month. Mark said I must have hungry eggs. haha Nice, huh?

We let Charlie break the news to the parents:
