Thanksgiving 2018

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It should be noted that Thanksgiving 2018 was a lovely affair. Obviously I’ve neglected this special little blogging place of mine over the past two years, but wanted to make sure this got in the record books.

We’ve always done Thanksgiving at my mom’s house, which is lovely. I legit love Thanksgiving. This year, everyone had something going on. Bro was going to his wife’s turkey day, sis was headed to Door County. SO… we decided to head to California to see my favorite people on this earth. AKA my other “sister.” AND of course, my aunt & uncle and my cousin’s lovely manfriend.

The trip was magical and Thanksgiving was AHHHMAZING. It’s ridiculous how easy Thanksgiving is when you show up as a total guest. Normally, at mom’s, I am planning menus leading up to Turkey Day, helping cook  and setting up the day prior, and there early that day to cook some more.

This Thanksgiving, all slaving was done by my incredible Aunt and my mom’s cousin, Melissa. And oh my did they go above and beyond. Not to mention the fact that Melissa lives in a little California dream of a house. It was FANTASTIC. We brought some wine and a centerpiece (made by the kiddos) and then boom. Done.

While poor Melissa and Aunt Helaine probably needed a week of sleep to recover, the whole thing felt wildly easy, relaxed and just perfect to me.

It should also be mentioned that little C spiced things up when Mark forced her to taste the sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are her nemesis. She showed him when she instantly barfed right there at the Turkey Day table. Lesson learned.

The rest of the trip was equally magical. My cousin’s boyfriend’s brother & his gf were there visiting, too! They are absolutely adorable and all four of them crashed at our airbnb one night. It was just so much fun.

Photos from the travel to Cali…

From our trip…

Highlights: Exploring neighborhood parks, venturing to the Grove & taking the Trolley, swimming at our AirBNB pool, picking oranges every morning from our AirBNB’s orange tree, Asian Day Spa-ing with Stef & Mom, Henry’s first time sleeping in a big boy (racecar) bed!!!, dipping our toes in the ocean, & of course, excessive time with my favorites.

And, what’s a trip to Cali without some Disney magic, right???

All in all, A+ trip.

Mini Chats

This morning while I was in my bathroom getting ready, I overheard Charlotte & Henry chatting over the baby monitor…

Charlotte: What did you dream about last night?

Henry: Mommy, Daddy, You, Char… I dreamed about you, too, Charlotte!

Charlotte: Did you dream about yourself, too?

Henry: Yes!

Charlotte: What a good little buddy. Such a good buddy…

Henry: I love you, Charlotte!

Charlotte: I love you, too, buddy. You little buddy…

Henry: But look what I can do with my car!!

Meanwhile, I’m trying to scrape myself up off the floor from the puddle I became…

I just love those little lovies.

Potty Training… Again

First of all, hi! Yes, we are all still alive and doing well! Somehow, the madness of school and travels and holidays has kept me from this happy, blogging place of mine. But, we have big things happening, which should be documented… Otherwise, they might as well have never happened. Note: this is not some millennial statement about the importance of the Internet, but just a confession of my inability to retain any information in my little fish brain. Just call me Dory.

Back to groundbreaking events… my big boy is potty training!! I’ve been touting his impressive little run these past 5.5 days (but who’s counting?!), which has been echoed by Mark’s reminders of how much easier it was with C. Because, again, my memory is shit, I looked it up today and it does appear as if it was easier with our little lady. Not to mention the sheer fact that potty training a penis in general is just weird… and messy.

I digress…

Mark and I decided that “Winter Break” would be the perfect timing to work with Henry on his potty training (we did the same with C 2 years ago). So clearly, I spent a stupid amount of time making an overly elaborate potty chart, bought Thomas the Train stickers, bought over-priced Thomas the Train Trackmaster trains and voila… we were ready to go!

With Charlotte, she was naked for a solid 5-7 days. Tush out, adorable as ever. With Hem, not so easy. We attempted naked lunch on Day 1 and Henry seemed to spend more time hand sanitizing than eating due to his countless attempts to make balloon animals out of his man bits.

New plan: undies.

20181223_135553

Do I need to clarify that these were Charlotte’s hand-me-down undies? He doesn’t care and I sure don’t need more things to spend money on, so Hem has been proudly sporting his Minnie Mouse/Pink/Purple/Little Mermaid/Etc undies, with that cute tush hanging out.

Anyway, on Day 1, Henry had two pee accidents right off the bat. This does not include the fire hose accidents… otherwise known as Henry peeing while on the potty, but losing control of his hose, which inadvertently leaves mommy with wet sleeves and a whole lotta clean up.

Still, Day 1 would be considered a success. Not fun… at all. But successful.

It should be noted that in between all the pee was SO MUCH POTTY SITTING. Like, 75% of my day just sitting on a stool singing every possible potty song I could make up… I even came up with my own Frozen Rendition… Let it Flow, Let it Flow… Don’t hold it back anymore… etc, etc, and on and on and on…

The boy was taking FOREVER to let that potty go.

20181223_084804

Day 2 Henry made it the WHOLE day with no accidents. He even woke up dry from his nap and immediately made poop and pee on the potty upon waking up. Go, H! Unfortunately, he did end up having an accident on the bathroom floor.

Oh! And, at some point on some day, he had to poop. We ran to the potty, I stripped off his clothes and swung him onto the potty only to hear a plop on the floor followed by Charlotte saying, “it looks like a ball…”

1/2 a poop right on the floor.

But at least the other half hit water.

Since that, he’s been great! No accidents for 3 days now, spending less time on the potty, and just telling us when he has to go! AKA: Killin it!!

Go, Hem!

Aww! This is random, but in the beginning, Henry would be sitting on the potty, trying SO hard and crying, saying, “mommy, help me pee/poop.” Poor bud. Check out this cutie pie little video of buddy working hard and giving mommy some love…

Clearly the winner in all of this is Henry. He went from 2 trains to 5 and is LOVING his new, train-rich life…

Here are some other photos from our little winter staycay..

Summer Carnival

Our summer has been packed full of activity and last night was no exception. Despite being a crazy day, our evening was a perfect summer night. Mark’s sister & her kiddos are in town, so last night we all headed to a local summer carnival.

It was complete with a gymnastics(ish) show, a bounce house (my nemesis), food trucks and even a train ride! Just another great evening with the fam!

Summer Lovin’

We have been having the best time this summer. The weather has been hot, sunny and perfect for playing. And, only having an afternoon nap to work around (instead of multiple naps) has made it so easy to fill our days with amazingly fun summer activities.

This week/weekend was no expection! We even got some kidless time with friends, and the kiddos had their forst non-family babysitter!

Js championship baseball game

Impromptu pool day

Summerfest

Dinner picnic & a movie on the deck

Buddy Turns 2!

20180602_095054My little baby is officially two years (and two days) old today. Although, if you ask him, 9 times out of 10, he’ll tell you he’s turning 4 (with a little smirk on his face). He will also tell you that his nearly 4 year old sister is turning 2.

I have SO much to say about my Henry. This boy talks NON-STOP. And not just babbles… but 6-7+ word sentences. He is a legit parrot. He loves to listen to a story or instructions and repeat them back. He’s the loviest love ever. Snuggles and hugs and kisses. He is empathetic. He is kind. He is polite (please, thank you, bless you, etc).

He’s also a bruiser.

20180602_095414-ANIMATION.gif

He loves to stick out his bottom lip and pout. He enjoys getting in trouble (help me!!)… sometimes he will put himself on a “break” – aka a timeout in his room. He will fake cry and then start cracking up.

He loves to play with his sister and often demands that she holds his hand in the car. He is somehow still nursing 1-2 times a day (I swore that I’d cut him off at 2… 2 days past and I’m not sure what the plan will be).

20180519_082928.jpg

Hem has his checkup this week, so I will post his stats, but here are a bunch of general updates.

  • Nicknames: Hem, Hem Hem, Hemy, Buddy, Moosh, Booshy
  • Words: This boy can literally say everything. I repeat, PARROT. He can count to 11. He sings his ABC’s… not perfectly… but SO well, relatively speaking.
  • Henry loves water. He will splash the shit out of anyone who comes near the bathtub. He just loves it.
  • Henry thoroughly enjoys watching baseball. He is always asking Grandpa Jeff to “watch baseball team for 2 minutes.”
  • He loves throwing balls “so high”… he walks around throwing balls hollering, “mommy, watch this!” “daddy, watch this!” etc…
  • Henry really enjoys reading books. He could literally read for hours. His current favorites are the Noisy Trucks Book, Dear Zoo, the Very Hungry Catepillar, and honestly, whatever else he can get his hands on. He went through a Goodnight Moon phase, but we haven’t read it in awhile. I need to pull that one back out.
  • His favorite movies/shows are Thomas the Train, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and Moana. Yes, I did not stick to the no TV until you’re 2 thing as I did with Charlotte. Their personalities are so different. He doesn’t get as sucked into the TV as she does, but that could always change.
  • Henry LOVES fire trucks and biiiiiiig trucks and construction equipment and airplanes and pretty much anything that goes.
  • We bought Hem some balloons for his bday and he calls them his moons.
    20180602_095213.jpg
  • Henry is funny. He LOVES to laugh. He loves to joke. He loves to be social. He honestly is just such a love. And, from about 18-20 months until now have just been amazing. He’s SO fun and so sweet and just such a cutie pie. He loves to hold hands and play. He loves to spend time together. He’s just a buddy.
    20180512_102658.jpg
  • Henry is in a silly phase where he constantly has to tell people, “no, that’s MY MOMMY!”… says it to Charlotte, my parents, random people… I probably shouldn’t laugh, but I like that he gets defensive over me. I’m sure one day he’ll be trying to trade me in for a cooler version, so I’ll take the silly affection now.
  • Henry is a master stacker. He loves to build a big tower and then knock it over. He actually has great precision and can build a pretty high tower.
  • He LOVES outside. Playing outside, looking outside, etc. The boy is most definitely an outdoor boy.
  • Henry continues to love music. He starts dancing and screams out that he loves this song whenever he hears music in a store. He’s constantly singing, tapping, bobbing his head and shaking those adorable little shoulders.
    20180526_132432-ANIMATION
  • Henry is a MASTER eater. He just goes and goes and goes. His favorites are meat, cheese, berries, mango, pizza, toast… hmmm. Honestly, he’s not picky (as long as it isn’t green – grrrrr). The other day he ate 4 scrambled eggs, a piece of toast and some cereal for breakfast. He asked for more, but momma decided to cut him off.
    20180602_182229
  • Henry’s poop saga has continued. He has terrible blow out poops that would literally blow your mind. I’ve seen many a stomach turn and jaw to drop in reaction to Henry’s pooping wizardry. We think it might be a dairy allergy and are working on it.
  • When Henry snuggles, he puts his little head on my (or whoever’s shoulder), sticks his butt in the air and wraps his tiny paws around my shoulders. I melt… every time.
  • Henry is the ultimate buddy. Like, that’s just the best way to describe him. SUCH a lovey buddy.
  • Henry continues to be the noisiest human ever. His voice is just so loud. People know when Henry is around.
    20180603_102319-ANIMATION
  • Henry loves to play in the sand. Mommy hates sand.

We had an amazing day celebrating Henry’s GOLDEN birthday this past weekend…

We woke up to streamers & balloons…

20180602_072206

We ate funfetti waffles…

20180602_083757

We opened presents (C gave Hemy a tool bench that she “paid for”… aka she earned the money to buy it by vacuuming the whole house!… She also gave him about 6 pieces of her own clothing… for when he’s bigger, of course).

We went to a little petting farm with Nan…

We had a picnic in the kitchen…

We spoke to family & played…

20180602_183609.jpg

All in all, it was a wonderful day celebrating a wonderful human. We can’t wait for his big fire station birthday party on Saturday!

Happy birthday, sweet golden boy. I love you beyond words. Thanks for being my Hem.

Remember me?

Hey all! It’s been forever since I’ve been here, but don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten. Somehow, life has been operating at warp speed and I never seem to find a minute to purge my thoughts to my trusty blog.

I’m hoping that a quick resurgence will get the momentum going, so, here I am!

As I mentioned, life has been crazy. So good, but so busy. From a personal standpoint, I’ve been up at 5am most mornings to workout, beginning my daily hustle. And I pretty much run around like crazy until nighttime, when I spend about 2-3 nights per week making cookies with my neighbor/friend/partner-in-crime.

Sleep (briefly). Repeat. And, repeat.

Sometimes it feels a bit like a scene from the movie Groundhog’s Day. 5am again?

But truly, I can’t complain.

The kids are at amazingly fun ages. Not without their challenges of course, but mostly very fun.

I will say, Miss C has been wickedly spicy this past week. I feel bad complaining because it’s been an amazing few months with little to no spice, but daaaaaaang, gf is testing her parents. And of course, in total sour patch kid fashion.

<C says/does something crazy. C’s head spins in circles from rage. C takes a time out. C re-emerges from said timeout.>

C: mommy, I love you so much. I’m going to be so nice to you and daddy and hemy every day because I love you so much.

<Mom gives blank stares and wearily says, “okay”, as if she was just run over by a truck.>

End scene.

As for Hem, he’s been so sweet, too. Boy is still the noisiest human gracing the good earth, but adorbs regardless.

He definitely rivals Stewie from family guy, in terms of how many times one being can say momma (or Some variation) consecutively.

But seriously, life is good! I have so much to share and hopefully will get it all out soon.

Thanks for not forgetting about me!

Until next time, ✌️
