Sorry, Henry!

Remember that time I called Henry the worst sleeper EVER? Well, I’d like to retract that statement and apologize to my little, because guess who SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT last night?

Yup! You guessed it 🙂

My pumpkin Henry slept from 7:30pm until 7am! He woke up once around 4/430, but by the time Mark got a bottle ready, Henry was already sleeping again.

Henry must have known that I had hit my breaking point. I was literally ready to crawl under a rock and stay there for the next two years.

Hopefully the trend continues!

As a side, little man is also napping like a champ. He’s turned his 30-40 minute naps into legit 1.5-3 hour naps! Such a good boy (and yes, seemingly a great sleeper all of a sudden).

Cheers to Henry pie!

One Proud (& Engorged) Momma

Tonight when I went to put little Henry pie to bed, he was wide awake. I nursed, potched and rocked him to no avail.

After maybe 30-40 minutes of the “please go the heck to sleep” dance, I gave up.

Okay, Henry. Momma’s just going to put you down in your crib and take a little break. You be good.

I fully anticipated my little guy to throw a big fit and demand I bounce faster, potch harder. But I walked out of the room anyway.

I quickly grabbed the monitor to watch. He looked right, he looked left. He chatted. He moved his feet around. He wiggled in the swaddle. Then, maybe 15 or so minutes later, it happened. He turned his head to the side and closed his eyes. Then, he fell asleep!!!!

No potch necessary. Not crying at all.

This is a big step, because if Henry hasn’t fallen asleep nursing, he is usually screaming the moment I even consider putting him down. He can sense these things.

So, after falling asleep around 830, the little dude slept until 215/230ish! I don’t know why my boobs can’t handle it, because I’ve gone this long before, but holy crap. I think I’m about to pump a gallon of milk (Mark takes the first night feeding while I pump).

Anyway, the moral of the story is that my little man is amazing!! Go Henry! Keep up the good work 🙂

Proud Moment!!

Guys, Henry just slept from 730-300!!!! That’s the longest stretch he’s done since week 3 or so!

It’s funny because I was just telling Mark that I felt like if he stayed consistent with his two wake ups, we could likely try to drop the first, because he doesn’t typically eat much at that time.

Apparently Henry got the memo!!

Fingers crossed that he does it again 💛

Month 3: Game Changer

First of all, I am sooo overdue for a Henry update. Hello!! He turned 3 months old over a week ago.

I will say this, that three month mark has been great. Or maybe it’s the fact that Charlie went back to school and I can now focus on Henry’s nap schedule.

Either way, he’s been super regular with his napping and only waking up twice at night. Not too shabby! Although sometimes he decides not to take his afternoon nap and instead just mean mug me…

Overall, it’s been a big improvement. Way to go, my sweet little love!

He’s also soooo much happier (duh. Sleep makes me happy, too). Such a smiley dude.

From Colicky to Easiest Baby Ever

A week or two ago, after reading our sleep book (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child), Mark concluded that Henry was likely colicky. I didn’t want to admit it, but I was questioning the same thing… because while he’s literally the happiest little dude ever (see photo below), he also does a decent amount of crying. Especially surrounding sleep times.

Fast forward to a few days ago, when Mark said, “If this sleep pattern continues, Henry might be the easiest baby ever…”

So, what happened in between those two comments?

A lot of napping. For Henry of course.

With Charlotte going back to school (after 3 weeks off), I’ve finally had a chance to focus on poor Henry. It’s not like he was awake nonstop while C was home, but his naps typically occurred when he was wildly overtired and just passed out (most commonly while in the car or out and about).

He takes a lot of quiet and bouncing and those are two things that are made quite difficult by a toddler.

Anyway, he’s back on the trusty old “awake for 1-2 hours, nap, awake for 1-2 hours, nap” schedule and has been doing really well. Especially these past two days (we’re back at work – farewell, maternity leave).

Today’s schedule:

730a Wake Up
930-1015 Nap
1030-1130 Nap (every other nap seems to need a little milk/bounce to get him back to sleep after an hour or so)
1258-158 Nap
220-233 Nap (mini)
413-5 Nap (I think he’s waking up?? But now he’s quiet again…)

Go Henry!

Even better, we’ve gone from waking every 2 hours at night to only waking twice per night (11/12ish and 4/5ish) for only 30-60 minutes each!

Thank god for a little improvement.

Another Exhausted Slip-Up

My world seems to be filled with weird little slip-ups these days. I’m pretty much always missing the punchline. Why? Because I’m exhausted.

Today’s was kind of funny…

I’ve been staring at two wedding invitations for at least a month with the intention of sending in the RSVP’s. I’ve moved the RSVP cards a million times, in hopes of getting them closer to the mailbox. Throw them in my car, my purse, the diaper bag, etc.

Today I decided enough is enough.

I went looking for them and the damn RSVP cards are MIA. Thankfully, for one of the weddings, you had an option for RSVP’ing online. Done.

However, that still left one. Embarrassed, I told Mark that I had lost the card and he would need to text his friend (apologetically) our RSVP.

Mark: Name, I’m really sorry and I know this is annoying, but we can’t find your wedding invitation. Melissa and I will be there.

Friend: Haha I already got your RSVP.

Mark: Yikes. We haven’t slept in three months and I guess it shows.

Well shit. I guess I found the RSVP cards…

A New Approach to Napping

Things have continued to be a little nutso with Charlotte’s sleep schedule. Today and yesterday, she slept from between 7/8 pm to 8 am.

This morning, we decided to try to go back to our original sleep bible, “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child” for some advice on handling the nap debacle. The book confirms that this transitional period sucks… surprise! But it also suggested putting the babe down for a 1-2 hour “rest” in the morning and then a nap in the afternoon.

The “rest” is essentially quiet crib time. If she sleeps, great. If not, no biggy. But regardless, you limit the time. Charlotte did not fall asleep during her rest time today, but she was quiet (after she screamed for the first 2 minutes) and happy for the full hour.

Then, we played a little, had lunch and hung out and started the wind down/bottle/book/pre-nap routine at aroud 1:10. By 1:30, Charlotte was totally out. Now, it’s 4:30 and she’s just waking up.

Not too shabby!!

I think tomorrow I’ll try to start the pre-nap routine closer to 12:45, but otherwise, I think things worked really well.

Fingers crossed that bedtime goes well tonight and she manages to sleep until 8 again tomorrow.

TWO NAPS!!

I know, I know… can I talk about anything else?

Apparently, no. I’m all naps all the time.

This weekend was another couple days of weird schedules. Charlotte has been waking up at around 6/630 every day for the past weekish. Every morning, her little baby diaper is totally soaked through, as are her clothes. After 4 mornings like this, we started to think, “hey… I think she’s ready for the next size!”

Duh, right?

Anyway, I think that might be why she’s been waking up so early, which could also be throwing off her whole schedule. Bad sleep perpetuates bad sleep.

I’m not 100% convinced, but it’s something to try.

I bought her new (bigger) night diapes that we’ll try tonight!

So anyway, on Saturday, Charlotte took a 3-hour nap, from 11-2. This was her only nap of the day and it worked great. She was a little doll the whole day. Only trouble? 11-2 is not a sustainable nap time and I don’t think she’s ready to push it back until 1.

On Sunday, we went back to trying for two naps. Charlotte napped from about 940-1140 I believe… or something like that. Then, we put her down for her second nap at around 330/4. She fell asleep at around 5p and we ended up having to wake her up for dinner at 6:45. Ugh. Needless to say, she didn’t fall asleep until about 10:30 pm last night. Unsuccessful.

BUT!!! And here’s where things start looking up… today, Charlotte napped from around 10-1130 AND AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON! It’s currently 4:30 and she’s been asleep since at least 3 pm! I’m so excited. Hopefully it’s not just a fluke. But even so, I’m feeling relieved. This tiny person was definitely in need of a little rest.
