Month 3: Game Changer

First of all, I am sooo overdue for a Henry update. Hello!! He turned 3 months old over a week ago.

I will say this, that three month mark has been great. Or maybe it’s the fact that Charlie went back to school and I can now focus on Henry’s nap schedule.

Either way, he’s been super regular with his napping and only waking up twice at night. Not too shabby! Although sometimes he decides not to take his afternoon nap and instead just mean mug me…

Overall, it’s been a big improvement. Way to go, my sweet little love!

He’s also soooo much happier (duh. Sleep makes me happy, too). Such a smiley dude.

From Colicky to Easiest Baby Ever

A week or two ago, after reading our sleep book (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child), Mark concluded that Henry was likely colicky. I didn’t want to admit it, but I was questioning the same thing… because while he’s literally the happiest little dude ever (see photo below), he also does a decent amount of crying. Especially surrounding sleep times.

Fast forward to a few days ago, when Mark said, “If this sleep pattern continues, Henry might be the easiest baby ever…”

So, what happened in between those two comments?

A lot of napping. For Henry of course.

With Charlotte going back to school (after 3 weeks off), I’ve finally had a chance to focus on poor Henry. It’s not like he was awake nonstop while C was home, but his naps typically occurred when he was wildly overtired and just passed out (most commonly while in the car or out and about).

He takes a lot of quiet and bouncing and those are two things that are made quite difficult by a toddler.

Anyway, he’s back on the trusty old “awake for 1-2 hours, nap, awake for 1-2 hours, nap” schedule and has been doing really well. Especially these past two days (we’re back at work – farewell, maternity leave).

Today’s schedule:

730a Wake Up
930-1015 Nap
1030-1130 Nap (every other nap seems to need a little milk/bounce to get him back to sleep after an hour or so)
1258-158 Nap
220-233 Nap (mini)
413-5 Nap (I think he’s waking up?? But now he’s quiet again…)

Go Henry!

Even better, we’ve gone from waking every 2 hours at night to only waking twice per night (11/12ish and 4/5ish) for only 30-60 minutes each!

Thank god for a little improvement.

One Man Circus

Henry’s dropping tricks like a ring leader!  Yesterday it was laughing and today he rolls over from tummy to back!

Go, Henry!

Remember when he would eat carpet every time we did tummy time? Well, hubby has been working on it with him every day (like he did with Charlie) and now he’s a regular pro!

Such a skilled little man!

Here’s a video of him in action…

Aren’t my boys cute?

The NY Fam

Over the past 11 days, we’ve had Mark’s sister, brother-in-law (for part of the time), and two nieces in town! Charlotte absolutely adored her time with the cousins and all of the many outings we had.

Here are some photos from the visit!

It’s no wonder why one of C’s favorite new words is “cousins”… The end of her summer has been jam-packed with her favorite people: the cousins (all 4 of them!)

He Laughs!!

While I can only imagine that he’s laughing at me, my sweet perfect little man officially giggles!!!!

I swear, Charlie was way older!

Fact check… I just searched my blog and while I couldn’t find the actual date of her first laugh, I know at 15 weeks, she still wasn’t laughing (although she was getting close).

Side note: she was sleeping through the night. Totally not a competition… But really… Hint, hint, Henry.

Anyway, my little giggler is adorable! He’s been the smileiest guy around and I had a feeling a laugh was just around the corner (and before 13 weeks)!

So excited to have captured the milestone 💙

The Worst Sleeper… EVER

Guys, remember when I was barking up Henry’s tree for his great routine? Remember when he was doing 5-7 hour sleep stretches?

Well, I’m having a hard time remembering because it’s been SO LONG. Henry has turned into the worst dang sleeper ever.

If Henry could speak, this is what my nights would sound like (every 1.5-2 hours, start to finish):

Hey ma, I just farted… Can you come rock me back to sleep?

Momma, I dreamed I was drinking milk and now I’m thirsty. Can I have a sip?

Mommy, did you just try to put me down???? In my crib!!!? Pick me up immediately or I’ll wake the toddler!

Momma, I have hands! Now nurse me back to sleep!

Mommy, let’s snuggle (or I’ll scream).

You get the picture…

I don’t even think he’s hungry most of the time. He just wants to be snuggled NON STOP!

Don’t get me wrong, I love how cuddly and sweet he is, but time and place, Henry. Time and place.

Essentially, I’m haggard and tired and fed up. We need to sleep train STAT, but I don’t want the toddler to suffer. Ugh. Dilemmas.

We just spent way too much money on a ZipadeeZip… Please say this will be our magic fix.

Let me know if you have helpful suggestions. I’m tired (understatement) and about to go back to work…

The Best Gift

It’s 6:40 am and I just woke up for the first time since I went to bed last night! Did Henry sleep through the night??

Honestly, I have no idea 🙂

After a horrible night’s sleep the night before and an endless eye twitch yesterday, Mark suggested putting Henry to bed in the nursery and Mark taking the couch so he could wake with Henry and I could just sleep.

I haven’t slept more than 6 hours interrupted (which even that has only happened a few times) in months… So you can inagine my excitement.

Anyway, I haven’t even left our room. I’m just following instructions. Wake up after 8 hours, pump, lay back down.

Isn’t my hubby the best???

Zoo Day!

Another fabulous day of mommy daycare, thanks to my amazing sister! We took all the kiddies to the zoo and honestly, it was a blast!

I absolutely love watching the cousins play 💛

I was really anxious about taking care of (and being able to entertain) both babes for 2.5 weeks straight with no breaks, but honestly, we’ve been having the best time! I feel like a very, very lucky momma.

After lunch, we went to portillos with my parents and coworkers!

💛💛 All the feels 💛💛

Pool Day!

Today I took the kiddos to an amazing little “water park” with my sister, niece and nephew. I’m not going to lie, I was so anxious about it.

Charlie is still at an age where she needs someone in the water with her at all times and that’s not exactly easy with an infant on shore. Anyway, my sister was amazing (thank you, thank you, thank you!!).

She took Charlie in the water and on the slide about 7,055 times. The weather was perfect, the pool temp was great and it was just a magical day. Also magical, Henry slept the whole time (except for the 10 minutes when we required a little mid-nap milk snack).

So much fun!

Also fun this week… We had a great play date yesterday with a group of neighbor mommas, a lunch date with daddy, and another lunch date with grandma, grandpa and daddy!
