Some DIY Crafting for My Girl

Last night my friend Jenna came over to help me finish the weekly/monthly photo prop for the little lady. Here are some pics…

We started with some unpainted, wood numbers (1.25").

And after a lot of strategizing (and chatting), decided to paint the numbers solid colors.

Besides the photo props, I also finished my gallery wall artwork for the nursery this weekend. The husband still needs to hang these pictures (hint, hint, wink, wink!!!), but here are some quick photos of what I did.

Little round guy.

Little round guy. This one is a combination of scrapbooking paper and ribbon/lace inside the frame and mini flowers glued on top of the frame’s glass.

The mirror frame and bad lighting make this one hard to see. But, I just used scrapbook paper inside the frame and painted letters/a button glued on top of the glass to give this one a little dimension and added interest.

This was my last one... creativity was running thin, and I was already wounded from the hot glue gun. So, this one is just scrapbook paper inside the frame and a fabric flower glued to the outside of the glass.

This is probably my favorite. There is white cardstock inside the frame and then I used the beads on a cheapy, pink "pearl" necklace to make a heart (I drew on the back side of the glass using a dry erase marker first to trace the heart shape), and then filled in the background with white buttons. Everything was stuck on using hot glue.

I've started filling the frames for the nursery gallery wall with DIY creations. Thought this turned out well. Just hearts cut out of scrap book paper.

Can’t wait to post pictures of the finished gallery wall! Hopefully all of these creations will blend well together.

In other news, my friend, Erica, posted some more pictures of us at her wine bottling party a few weeks ago. Thought I’d share…

DIY Weekly / Monthly Baby Picture Prop

As I mentioned in this blog post, I plan to take either weekly or monthly pics of our little lady for at least the first year of her life (and then maybe just annually after that… or maybe I’ll continue – who knows?) Anyway, yesterday my favorite crafting partner and good friend, Jenna, came over to help me make the Month/Week sign prop for the photos.

I had originally planned to do blocks like these…

But didn’t like what I saw in terms of options at Michael’s. SO, I went a different direction, and here’s what we did…

We took these wooden letters from Michael's and spelled out "weeks" and "months" (we'll do "years" during our Crafting Day - Part 2) and used acrylic paint to beautify them.

The paint selection... we used Martha Stewart paint, but any acrylic works.

Then, we took these wooden doily looking things and painted them a cream/off-white color.

And then took glue dots and fastened the letters to these cute little chalkboard tags I found (at Michael's).

Once we finish, I’ll post more!

Symptoms

I’ve definitely been feeling pretty pregnant lately. Lots of weird body changes including hot flashes… a lot of them. And the obvious achy discomforts. I’ll hold off on the complaints today… because it’s my birth week! AND, in honor of my last birthday in my twenties (holy shit – when did that happen??), I’m headed to dinner at this new Italian restaurant and a movie (The Other Woman) with my amazing lady friends tonight.

On a sillier note, after dealing with this yesterday…

Apparently Toby likes my new size... boobs for a seat, belly for a boost.

Toby and I made a deal that he needed to stay on his half of the car today…

Also, how cute is my husband? After he finished doing some work last night, Marky sat in the nursery (in our borrowed glider until ours gets delivered – thanks again, Jenna!!!) reading, “The Birth Partner.” The only thing he shared with me was to make sure he had good breath during the labor 🙂

See him in there?? So sweet.

Baby Photos

I am a total photo person, and as such, have been thinking a lot about newborn photos and the very cute and fun “month by month” photos once our baby arrives. In terms of professional photos, I did a LOT of researching and contacting and ended up finding a company called, Pics by Nic, thanks to my friend, Katie, and another friend from college. Her photos are adorable and she is SO inexpensive, it’s amazing.

Most of the quotes I had been getting were about $350-450 JUST for a newborn photo shoot. That was absolutely not an option for me. Nicole, the owner/photographer with Pics by Nic, has a “first year of life” package that includes a newborn, 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, 12-month and fall pumpkin photo shoot all for… wait for it… $375! That’s about $60/photo session! Pretty awesome, huh?

Here are some of her photos…

Oy. I love her pics. So cute, huh?

Anyway, the other thing I’ve been thinking about regarding photos is the “month by month” photos that I’ll take at home. I’ve found a bunch of cute options and really think I want to somehow incorporate Toby the Wonder Pup. Any opinions on which style you think is best (ie: using the little blocks – see below, or the onesies with the month sticker)??? Help me decide!

Symptoms

Again, I’m feeling pretty damn tired. I’m starting to think that it has very little to do with how much sleep I get and more to do with the fact that I’m pregnant. Imagine that! Regardless, I keep on keepin’ on 🙂

Last night I went to the baseball game with a few friends. We technically got the tickets through my work, but it wasn’t too much of a work event. As we were walking out of the game, a random stranger said to me, “You need to get to the hospital immediately!” Well, screw you, dude! I do not think I look THAT big. Anyway, here are a few pictures from the game…
